Robert (Bob) Mourlam, the son of Donald Mourlam, Sr. and Lillian (Knoke) Mourlam was born February 12, 1952, in Belmond, IA.  His father Donald passed away in 1954.  In October of 1956, Lillian married Faye Withers who accepted Robert and his brother Donald as if they were his own.  A few years later Robert and Don were blessed with a sister Kathy. Rob as he was often referred to grew up in the Belmond Community where he graduated from Belmond High School in the Class of 1971.

Following high school Robert began his career of 35 years with Printing Services, Inc. in Belmond, where he was a very proficient and skilled Pressman.  He also had been employed for a stint at The Print Shop, before returning to PSI.  He also had the gift of being a very good cartoonist and shared his cartoons and art drawings over the man years of his life.  Many of his works were one of a kind and as unique in nature as Bob was. Some of the ceiling tiles at Jerry’s Restaurant in Belmond were adorned with his witty artistic skills.

Bob was somewhat of a “throwback”, loving to ride and break horses in earlier years and he loved the old western movies and show very much.  His favorite actor was Clint Eastwood and on occasion he would dawn his western outfit and when spotted Rob had a strong resemblance to his favorite star.  Another trademark if you saw him about the area in his truck or riding a lawn mower around town for the lawn business that he and Don ran, he would most certainly be chewing on a cigar and would wave as you went by.

Being a bachelor was something he was very comfortable with and often times would share that living a life of solitude was ok.  Not having his own children, he looked forward to getting together with his siblings to spoil and play with his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  If they were playing games on the floor, or with toys or just hanging out Bob would surely jump right down alongside them to participate.  He had a green thumb and loved to plant and nurture his gardens over the years.  He would raise some of the largest and healthiest looking produce such as his tall tomatoes and he loved to share the fruits of his labors with others.  He was a man who enjoyed cooking and was very seasoned at the task.  He often would bake bread and cookies to share.  He was a wonderful brother, uncle and son.  He loved to play dominoes with his mom Lillian and was very fond of his favorite Solitaire games.  For many years he appreciated the companionship and camaraderie of his dog Bullet.  He wasn’t much of a traveler other than to visit family.  He was very genuinely kind, big hearted, layed back and always willing to lend a hand and looked forward to a good chat with his friends.  Bob was a wonderful care giver for his mom as she aged in her later years.  He also shared his caring ways with the community doing various jobs for the elderly around town running them on errands or taking them to various places they needed to reach.

Robert’s passing has left a hole in the lives of his surviving brother Donald (Suzanne) Sue Mourlam, Belmond, IA and their families Bob Anne Hoffman) Mourlam and kids Sam and Max, Cedar Rapids, IA, Jennifer Kiepke (Dave Fenton) and children Faith and Grace Fenton, Garner, IA, and Dan (Katie) Mourlam, and their children Nora, Violet, and Henry, Vermillion, South Dakota; Robert’s sister Kathy (Lonnie ) Prater, Lebanon, MO, and their families Nathaniel (Anna) Lindley, Philipsburg, MO, and children, Hunter, Harley, Holden, Hayden, Locker, Ethan and Emily; and Matt Lindley, Philipsburg, MO; along with other extended family and countless friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother Henry and infant sister Martha.
