Mason City Fire Destroys Historic Landmark

44 Residents Now Homeless

Forty-four residents have been displaced after a fire destroyed the historic Kirk Apartments in Mason City on Monday afternoon. Firefighters from Mason City, Clear Lake, and Rockwell battled the blaze for several hours and now residents and officials are devising plans to move forward. Mason City Mayor Bill Schickel thanked the emergency personnel for their quick response.

Schickel says if there was one silver lining to all of this, it was the fact that there were no injuries.

He also stated there are a number of immediate concerns in the short term.

Schickel offered a couple of ways in which we can help.

The Mason City Salvation Army is taking donations at 747 Village Green Drive. You can call (641) 424-4031.
