Area Property Tax Regulation Discussed at the State Level

Many area property owners are getting surprised by their property tax bill which has gone up. These residents are asking why the bill has increased in some cases dramatically. State Senator Dave Rowley whose district includes Winnebago and Kossuth Counties among others is addressing the issue with legislation being debated on the floors of the legislature.

Counties choose to apply these levies for various important reasons. These could be for facility needs, programs and services, or capital improvements.

Rowley has heard from a number of constituents who are upset especially at a time when other costs such as fuel, food, and basic necessities have gone dramatically up.

Rowley expects the debates to continue over the bill, but agrees that something must be done to ease the burden on the taxpayers.
