The 46th annual Quodlibet variety show presented by North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) will take place on Saturday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the North Iowa Community Auditorium on the NIACC campus. This year’s theme ‘Stage and Screen’ features music from movies and musicals both new and old.
The NIACC Singers Captains all agreed that seeing the semester’s hard work come together is what they enjoy most about performing in Quodlibet. Dayne Meyers from Mason City said, “The most exciting thing about performing at Quodlibet was being back onstage. Our project that we worked on all semester finally paid off and we got to show a lot of people what we do in class.” Meyer added that she is really looking forward to that again this year.
North Butler graduate, Alex Shultz said, “The thing I have liked most about choir at NIACC is meeting new friends and making friendships that will last a long time! I came back to NIACC this year because I liked creating amazing music with people that had the same passion for it!”
For Mason City alum, Emily Read, Quodlibet is a chance to “sharing and showing the hard work and dedication with the people who support me and everyone else in the group.” Performing alongside her best friends in the group is what Read enjoys most about the weekend of shows.
“Audiences should expect a wide variety of music,” said Director Jayson Ryner. “We’ve got selections from the golden age of musicals like Camelot and My Fair Lady all the way to our closer from Dear Evan Hanson.”
The NIACC Singers traveled to Florida and then on a Caribbean cruise during spring break where the closing number “You Will Be Found” had a profound impact when performed for both residents of a Veteran Care Center and the ship’s staff.
“When the man in charge of the dining for a 3000 person cruise ship comes up to you with tears in his eyes and says ‘people don’t ever do things like that for us’ it shows how much he and his dining staff really were touched by ‘The Singers’ sincerity.” Ryner said. “I believe this is the best closer to a Quodlibet show that we have ever done in my 22 years directing.”
Tickets for this year’s Quodlibet are $10 for adults and $7 for students and available at either Mason City HyVee location, the NIACC Box Office and at the door.
