Forest City Questioned on Highway 69 Right of Ways

The Forest City Council was posed with an important question as to who has the right to 26 feet of ground off of Highway 69 near the downtown area. Rick and Kristi Wiley are the owners of Cabin Coffee just off the highway. They want to use the space for additional parking and are asking those with the right of way ownership to maintain that space.

Forest City Council Attorney Steve Bakke had a historical perspective on the right of way area on the west side of the highway.

Bakke then explained that it wasn’t until recently that action was taken.

Mayor Ron Holland explained that he himself has sought information regarding the unmaintained 26-foot area between the properties and the road.

Wiley felt that something has to be done.

The city may try to contact the Iowa Department of Transportation to see where things are.
