Winnebago County Rural Recycling Changes in May

The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors have agreed to change their rural recycling program to a different vendor. The board has opted to work with Scott Levine who will have drop off sites instead of the curbside pickup that Waste Management offered with the old contract.

Supervisor Terry Durby explained that the change was necessary based on continual rural resident complaints.

The Winnebago County Auditor’s Office has also been fielding phone calls from concerned residents about notifications that they are receiving according to Supervisor Susan Smith.

Winnebago County Drainage Clerk Kris Oswald, who works in the Auditor’s Office explained that the postcards appear to almost mislead according to rural residents.

In the discussion, board members and Oswald both outlined the offer to residents from Waste Management.

Smith stressed that rural residents need to know that there is a county-wide rural recycling program after the current program expires, but if people still want to use curbside services, they should take advantage of the Waste Management offer.

Residents who have questions can contact the Winnebago County Auditor’s Office at (641) 585-3412.
