Clarion Coin Club to Meet Saturdaty

by Rodger Tveiten

For the past 20 years, the Clarion Coin Club has organized a spring coin show and a fall coin show. This year because Labor Day is as late as it can be, the Clarion Fall Coin Show will be this Saturday, August 29. It is not called the Fall Coin Show for obvious reasons, instead it is the America 250 Clarion Coin Show. It, like the spring show, will honor the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of our nation. Highlighting the show will be the new and re-designed, circulating U. S. coinage. The new nickels, dimes, quarters and half dollars are all double-date 1776-2026 to recognize America 250. The look of the coins, especially the dimes and the halves, is very different. The new circulating coins will be on display and for sale at reasonable prices, individually or by the roll.
The show hours are from 9:00 to 3:00 at the spacious ballroom of the Heartland Museum in West Clarion. There will be a dozen dealers and two dozen tables of merchandise to inspect. Free spoken appraisals will be given and dealers will buy, sell and trade. The event is family friendly. There are free, hourly door prize drawings. Expect sports cards, stamps, currency, gold, silver, foreign coins, U S. coins, tokens, and other collectibles.
The Clarion Coin Club, founded in 1958, is one of the oldest and most active organizations of its kind in Iowa. Regular meetings with 24 or more attendees are held on fourth Thursday evenings of the month at the Clarion Pizza Ranch club room. Each meeting features a live, 80 item auction. Boyd LaRue is the club president.
