Belmond Residents Have Tree Debris Concerns

Storms ripped through the Belmond area last week that downed power lines and tree limbs. Debris was extensive in the city and was collected up by both city workers and residents. In a recent Belmond City Council meeting, resident Julie Kalkwarf stated that a number of dead trees and tree limbs remain. The cost to cut down these trees could become expensive, but she had an idea.
Her concern was for trees in rights of way which are the city’s responsibility.
Kalkwarf encouraged the city to continue its efforts in the storm cleanup and to consider applying for the grant and others like it.
She acknowledged that residents may have a hard time cutting down dead and dying trees because of the expense involved, but suggested that there might be programs or grants available to assist them as well. She asked the council to investigate these possibilities for the benefit of both the city and its residents.
