West Hancock Schools Open a Third Kindergarten Section

West Hancock School Community, on Tuesday evening of the Board of Education meeting, approved the addition of a third section of kindergarten to reduce classroom sizes for that grade level in the 2026-2027 school year.

As part of that adjustment, one of the early childhood program teachers will be used to teach that third section of kindergarten. This reduces our number of early childhood teachers from 3 to 2 and creates an opening where 3-year old preschool no longer has an instructor. The district is posting the position, which doesn’t require a licensed teacher, but having experience working with young children in a structured setting is something that they would want to ensure the candidate has. The district is moving around classrooms and spaces to accommodate the extra classroom needed for kindergarten, which in turn moves 3-year old preschool to a different room.

The Board of Education stated in a release that they are dedicated to offering 3-year old preschool, which is their hope for the coming school year, should they find an instructor.
