Women United Collecting Donations for Teacher Survival Kits Ahead of New School Year

MASON CITY, Iowa β€” Women United and the United Way of North Central Iowa are collecting donations to assemble Teacher Survival Kits for local educators as they prepare their classrooms for the upcoming school year.

Organizers said many teachers spend their own money on classroom supplies each year, and the kits are meant to provide practical essentials and small comforts to support educators throughout the school year.

Most-needed items include dry erase markers, sticky notes, tissues, bandages, snacks and drink mixes, K-Cups and hot cocoa, and Tide stain sticks.

Those who prefer to give financially can make a monetary donation, which organizers said allows them to purchase the items teachers need most.

Community members can donate supplies, make a financial gift, or join a packing event scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Robin Anderson Room at the Mason City Chamber of Commerce.

Donated items can be dropped off at the United Way office, 520 S. Pierce Ave., or the Thrivent office, 1527 S. Monroe Ave., in Mason City. An Amazon wishlist for the effort is also available at https://a.co/0eDgZaXr.

Organizers said the effort is intended to show local teachers how much they are valued for supporting children throughout the community.
