Sharon Jackson

Sharon L. Jackson, 87 of Dows, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls.

Memorial graveside services for Sharon Jackson will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Fairview Cemetery in Dows.

A meal and time to celebrate the life of Sharon Jackson will be at 11:30 AM on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the American Legion Post 523, 120 East Ellsworth Street in Dows. Following the meal, guests are invited to linger awhile at the Creme in the Mercantile Building and enjoy a dessert as part of the celebration of life for Sharon.

Sharon Leilani (Durrant) Jackson, daughter of Marvin and Minnie (Macken) Durrant, was born on March 26, 1939. She attended Dows High School and went on to pursue her nursing education at North Iowa Community College where she earned her nursing degree. Nursing was more than a profession to Sharon; it was her calling. She devoted her entire life to caring for others and serving those around her.

On July 7, 1956, Sharon was united in marriage to Kenneth Jackson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williams. The couple first met while Sharon was waitressing at the Green Door Café in Dows where Kenny would enjoy his lunch breaks when trucking in the area . Together they built a beautiful life in Dows, where they raised their sons, Mike and Anthony, and remained devoted to their community throughout their married life.

Sharon began her nursing career at the Dows Care Center and later worked at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls. Later in life after they had both retired, Sharon continued her service to others while wintering in Yuma, Arizona, picking up nursing shifts at a local nursing home. Caring for others was simply part of who Sharon was.

Kenneth and Sharon enjoyed traveling in their RV and spent many winters in Arizona and Texas. They loved attending dances around the area and looked forward each summer to camping at Twin Oaks in Clear Lake with several other couples from the Dows area. Some of Sharon’s happiest memories were celebrating the Fourth of July at the campground with family and friends. Sharon also had a special love for the Colorado Rocky Mountains and treasured any opportunity to travel west on vacations.

When she was at home, Sharon would enjoy her flower garden and having coffee with the ladies at the Mercantile. She was a huge animal lover, passing on her care of others to pets as well as rescuing countless animals over the years and giving them a loving home. Most of all, she loved taking care of her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Sharon is survived by her sons Mike Jackson of Ames and Anthony (Beth) Jackson of Clear Lake; grandchildren Camille Jackson, William Jackson, Thomas (Lauren) Jackson, and Matthew Jackson; sister Sandra Oatman of Wichita, Kansas along with nieces, and extended family and friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, and brother Donald Frizzell.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family invites you to honor Sharon’s memory by directly donating or supporting your favorite place, organization, or small business in Dows. There was no place she loved more than Dows, and she took great pride in being an active part of the community she called home.

Sharon’s family is grateful for the excellent and compassionate care that she received while at Scenic Manor in Iowa Falls, and would also like to extend their thanks to all of her Dows friends who made visits to her and brightened her day.
