
Ruth Elizabeth (Bosma) Murra, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Nerdig) Bosma, was born July 31, 1932, on a farm in Hebron Township, Kossuth County near Stevens. The family moved to a farm east of Rake, and she attended Lincoln #1 country school, east of Rake, the family later moved to a farm northwest of Buffalo Center, and she graduated from the Buffalo Center Community School in 1949.
Ruth continued her education at Waldorf College in Forest City. She started her teacher career in a rural Kossuth County school between Lakota and Elmore, MN from 1950-1951, in Rake, from 1951-1958 and in Garner, from 1958-1961, during those years, she also attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City. On June 23, 1961, Ruth was united in marriage to Raymond Murra at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. To this union, two sons were born – Rick and Royce.
Ray and Ruth farmed southwest of Buffalo Center, until their retirement in 2002, where they remained on the farm before moving into Buffalo Center on June 13, 2009. She became a resident at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center on September 1, 2023.
Ruth was an active, lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center where she became a member of her church at the age of 14. At that time, she began teaching and accompanying Sunday school and vacation Bible school for many years, she later became a Superintendent for both, she was also an active member in the Women’s Fellowship where she served as President and various other positions as well as the Missionary Work Group, and she was always willing to do anything for her church. Ruth enjoyed her family, cooking, baking, gardening and old time music.
Ruth passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center, at the age of 93.
Ruth is survived by her 2 sons: Rick Murra and his wife Patricia of Prior Lake, MN and Royce Murra of Blue Earth, MN; her brother: Richard Bosma and his wife Sharon of Mason City, along with many other relatives and friends.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond Murra on June 27, 2009; and by her brothers, Virgil Bosma and Dennis Bosma.
A funeral service will be held Monday, June 22, 2026, at 10:30 AM, at First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Tim Diehl officiating. The funeral will be livestreamed on the Oakcrest Funeral Services Facebook page. Burial will follow at Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials may be directed to First Congregational Church or to St. Croix Hospice, in memory of Ruth.
