United Way of North Central Iowa Launches Kids Shoe Drive

MASON CITY — United Way of North Central Iowa is asking the community to help local children start the upcoming school year with confidence through its annual Kids Shoe Drive.
The campaign provides children throughout North Iowa with brand-new athletic shoes so they can learn, play and grow with confidence. Community members can support the effort by donating new or gently used kids’ athletic shoes, making a financial contribution or volunteering at one of the upcoming distribution events.
“Something as simple as a good pair of shoes can make a tremendous difference in a child’s confidence and ability to participate in school and activities,” said Joe Malone with United Way of North Central Iowa. “This drive is about making sure every child has the opportunity to begin the school year feeling prepared and supported.”
Donation boxes are located throughout Mason City, Clear Lake, Charles City and Forest City. Shoes may also be dropped off at the United Way office, located at 520 S. Pierce Ave., Suite 204, in Mason City. A full list of shoe donation locations is available at UnitedWayNCI.org.
In addition to shoe donations, 100 percent of monetary donations to the Kids Shoe Drive are used to purchase shoes for children in North Iowa. Volunteers are also needed to help organize and distribute shoes during the events.
Shoe distribution events are scheduled in Mason City, Charles City and Forest City.
The Mason City distribution will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Community Health Center, 404 N. Federal Ave.
The Charles City distribution will be held Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Central Park.
The Forest City distribution will be held Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Forest City YMCA, 916 W. I St.
Shoes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and children must be present to receive a pair of shoes.
Businesses and organizations are also encouraged to sponsor the drive and help provide new shoes to children in need across North Iowa.
