Police Investigating Shooting Outside Mason City Kwik Star

MASON CITY — Mason City police are investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday evening outside the Kwik Star at 1502 S. Federal Ave.

According to a Mason City Police Department press release, multiple shots were fired at about 7:10 p.m. on June 3. One person sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after the shooting, an Iowa State Patrol trooper located and stopped one of the vehicles believed to be involved near Fifth Street and South Federal Avenue. Police said the occupants were identified and interviewed, and the vehicle was impounded for further examination.

Officers later intercepted a second vehicle believed to be involved when it arrived at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. Police said one occupant had visible gunshot wounds. Those individuals were also identified and interviewed, and that vehicle was impounded.

Police said multiple firearms were recovered during the investigation. Investigators are working to determine what brought the two groups to the location and what led to the exchange of gunfire.

“At this time, investigators have no indication of an ongoing threat to the public,” police said in the release. “The incident appears limited to the individuals involved.”

No charges have been filed. The investigation remains active.
