Gov. Reynolds Issues Disaster Proclamation for Eight Iowa Counties Following Severe Weather

DES MOINES — Governor Kim Reynolds on Tuesday issued a disaster proclamation for eight Iowa counties in response to severe weather that began May 15 and continued through the weekend.

The proclamation covers Emmet, Hancock, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pocahontas, Winnebago, Woodbury, and Worth counties and allows state resources to be used to assist with response and recovery efforts.

The governor’s proclamation also activates both the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program for residents impacted by the storms.

The proclamation took effect immediately and will remain in place for 30 days unless it is extended or terminated earlier.

Under the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program, eligible households may receive grants of up to $7,000. Assistance is available for expenses including home and vehicle repairs, replacement of personal property or food, and temporary housing costs.

To qualify, household income must be at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Residents seeking reimbursement for storm-related expenses must provide original receipts.

The Disaster Case Advocacy Program is designed to help individuals and families facing serious disaster-related hardships, injuries, or other adverse conditions. Case advocates work directly with affected residents to develop recovery plans and connect them with available services and resources.

Unlike the grant program, there are no income eligibility requirements for the Disaster Case Advocacy Program. The program remains open for 180 days following the governor’s proclamation.
