Elderly Man Found Deceased Following Search in Kossuth County

KOSSUTH COUNTY, Iowa — Authorities in Kossuth County are investigating the death of a 91-year-old man who was found deceased Thursday afternoon following a search near his home south of Fenton.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a request for assistance around 2 p.m. on January 29 to help locate Marvin Bollinger, who lived alone at a residence on 103 300th Street south of Fenton. Family members reported they were unable to contact him and could not find him at his home. They also noted that Bollinger had missed a scheduled appointment the previous day.

A deputy searched the residence and surrounding outbuildings but was unable to locate Bollinger. Family members informed authorities that he frequently took daily walks in the area and began driving nearby roads to look for him.

A short time later, Bollinger was found lying in a ditch approximately a quarter mile from his residence. He did not survive the cold temperatures and was pronounced deceased.

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office reported there is no evidence of foul play. The Kossuth County Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted, and an autopsy will be conducted at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny.
