Algona Man Pleads Guilty in Cerro Gordo County Credit Card Fraud Case

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa — One of two Algona residents charged in a credit card fraud case in Cerro Gordo County has pleaded guilty.

Danibel Horta, 34, entered a guilty plea to two counts of credit card fraud and one count of forgery, according to court records.

Law enforcement officials say Horta and Noarys Abreu Perera, 31, used forged and stolen credit card information to purchase multiple items in Clear Lake between May 18 and May 30, 2025. Investigators believe the pair may be connected to similar crimes in other parts of Iowa.

Horta is scheduled to be sentenced on March 2.

Abreu Perera has pleaded not guilty to charges of ongoing criminal conduct and five counts of unauthorized use of credit cards. Her trial is currently set to begin on February 10.
