Iowa Gas Prices Jump 14 Cents in Latest Weekly Fuel Report

DES MOINES — Gas prices across Iowa moved higher this week, with the average price for regular unleaded climbing 14 cents to $2.51 per gallon, according to AAA’s weekly fuel report released Wednesday.
Despite the increase, prices remain well below last year’s levels, when drivers were paying an average of 37 cents more per gallon. The national average currently stands at $2.84, about 33 cents higher than Iowa’s statewide average.
Crude oil prices also rose sharply over the past week. West Texas Intermediate crude increased by $5.28 per barrel to $61.65, while Brent crude climbed $5.84 to $66.07. Both benchmarks remain significantly lower than their prices one year ago.
Diesel fuel prices in Iowa moved in the opposite direction, falling 5 cents to an average of $3.20 per gallon. That figure is 31 cents lower than the national diesel average and 15 cents below where prices stood this time last year.
In the heating fuel market, natural gas prices dropped to $3.09 per million British thermal units. Propane averaged $1.57 per gallon statewide, while home heating oil averaged $2.67 per gallon.
State officials encourage Iowans to explore fuel- and energy-saving tips as winter continues, particularly for home heating and long-distance travel.
