Domestic Abuse Displays to Go Up in Winnebago County

The Winnebago County Courthouse lawn will be the site of a an upcoming display on domestic abuse. The display is an attempt to raise awareness on the effects and impacts of abuse and its various forms.

Amanda Jensen with the Winnebago County Attorneys Office explained the purpose of the display.

This display is unique in its approach to better understanding why people do not leave abusive relationships.

The signs and displays will be lit up at night in purple which is the color identified for domestic violence.

Those who believe or suspect an abusive relationship is happening, have ways of reporting it and possibly saving themselves or others from further abuse which in some cases escalate over time.

While most domestic abuse is verbal, it has the possibility of escalating into physical violence.

The displays will open near the fountain of the courthouse on October 1st. They are free and open to the public.
