North Iowa Community Schools Have Title Funds Withheld

The North Iowa Community School District is waiting on funding that would fulfill a set budget for the current fiscal year. North Iowa Community School District Superintendent Darwin Lehmann explained what is missing.

These monies come from the McKinney-Vento Act dealing with education for homeless children and youth. They are funds that deal with school improvement with under specific titles with subsections or parts like improving basic programs operated by LEAs, education of migratory students, neglected, delinquent, and at-risk state and local agencies, supporting effective instruction, educating English learners and immigrant students. Another section contains parts that deal with student support and academic enrichment, 21st century Community Learning Centers, out-of-school time career pathways, and a subpart concerning rural and low-income schools.

This is not the only potential funding that may be getting withheld according to Lehmann.

The district continues to hope that these funds will be released in the current fiscal year.
