Garner Weathers Strong Storms with Updated Sewer Systems

Last week saw intense storm systems move through downing trees and tree branches and causing minor flooding. In Garner, updated and new sewer systems were put to the test according to Garner Mayor Tim Schmidt.

These projects were part of an urban renewal plan to improve drainage systems within the city.

Other areas were atte4nded to by city workers who tried to make sure there were relatively few issues for residents to have to deal with according to Schmidt.

The rainwater is collected into the sewer systems and then drained into the Iowa River.

Schmidt stated that the city was very pleased with the operation of the sewer systems during the storm and is working to make more future improvements as the city continues to grow in housing and local business.
