North Iowa School Officials Happy With 4 Day School Weeks

A trend that is finding its footing in Iowa is the concept of the four-day school week. The North Iowa Community School District is one of those districts that has implemented the idea, and it appears to be working well according to North Iowa Community Schools Superintendent Joe Erickson.

The district schedule has students attending classes Tuesday through Friday. Extracurricular activities continue each day despite the school schedule, and this requires transportation on days when school is not in session. Erickson made sure to acknowledge the hard work of his transportation team in getting this done.

The school year is still young and there may be some unforeseen hiccups along the way according to Erickson.

Erickson continues to field positive comments about the new four-day schedule from both students and staff. The main topic is that there is more energy in the schools because of the reduced number of days during the week for actual class time.

The change in the number of days during the week for class time does not mean the students have reduced the number of required hours and days to graduate. The four days when students are in the classroom during the week are adjusted to make up for the lost time of not being in school on Mondays.
