William “Bill” H. Dieger


William “Bill” Henry Dieger, age 89. Belmond, IA, died, Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.  As per his wishes, his body has been cremated.  There will be no visitation or church services, burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery at a later date.

Bill was born September 29, 1934, on a farm Northwest of Belmond, I.  He is the son of Henry and Tillie (Riekens) Dieger.

Bill graduated from Goodell High School in 1952, where he played basketball and baseball.

Bill married Shirley Meints on January 2, 1954, in Meservey, IA.  They were married 69 years.  They were the parents of 2 daughters, Linda and Renae.

Bill liked fishing, hunting and trapping and having morning coffee with his buddies at True Value.  He and Shirley spent 11 years wintering in Arizona.

Bill worked for 30 years in management at the seed company in Belmond before moving to Minneapolis with Shirley and worked for Cargill.  They moved to Des Moines where they owned and operated a fast-food restaurant for 5 years before moving back to Belmond.  After retirement he worked part time for True Value Hardware Store and for Goeman Farms.

Bill is survived by his wife Shirley Dieger, Belmond, IA; daughter Linda (Just) and husband McNeeley (T.C.) of Mesa, AZ; 3 grandchildren: Brian, Antony, and Kelli; also, eleven great grandchildren. A sister Corol Showalter her friend Roger Paulsen, Belmond, IA.  Sister-in-law Darlene Dieger, Belmond, IA; son-in-law Larry Scott, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hank and Tillie, daughter Renar Scott, grandson Aaron Porter, granddaughter Nicole (Nikki) Chadwick, brother Paul Dieger, brother-in-law Richard Showalter, and a son-in-law Jim Just.
