The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura girls golf team didn’t have far to travel to the regional final for a second straight year and will send girls to the state golf meet again.
Audrey Overgaard finished sixth last year to advance as an individual to the state meet, firing an even 90. This year, she improved her score at Bear Creek and her placement, finishing fourth overall with an 87.
She won’t go alone, as teammate Sydney Helgeson was two strokes behind Overgaard with an 89 and finished fifth to advance.
As a team, the Cardinals were in a stacked regional with two of the top-5 teams in the state. They finished just ten strokes back of second place New Hampton. Sumner-Fredericksburg dominated to win the team title scoring 374. The top two teams advance to state along with the top-6 individuals.
The Class 2A state meet will take place in Marshalltown.
