EMS Funding Continues to be Discussed in Winnebago County

The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors along with the three emergency medical services in the county pushed for funding to help hire new Emergency Medical Technicians and paramedics. The funding comes in the form of a levy and a new personal income tax.

Now with the measures having passed, discussion is being had between the services and the board on how much money is to be allocated between the Buffalo Center, Lake Mills, and Forest City Ambulance services.

At present, the greatest need for personnel is in Lake Mills where they are currently staffed with four medics to handle the load in their portion of the county. Forest City will send personnel to assist in the event of an emergency.

In a recent meeting between the Forest City Ambulance Service and the Winnebago County Board of Supervisors, leaders from the service wanted to know how the funding would be divided.

Supervisor Terry Durby would like to see some movement on budgeting for the three services.

The three services will need to have some figures to work with so that they can begin scheduling and hiring where needed.

The board along with the advisory board continue to try and look at shortfalls within the county to minimize the response time of the three services.
