Forest City, Lake Mills teams advance to district golf; BK’s Willims wins sectionals

The top two area boys golf teams are off to the next round. Yesterday, Lake Mills and Forest City hosted Sectional Meets at their respective golf courses and found ways to advance.

At Bear Creek, the Indians were four shots out of first place, finishing second to the Top of Iowa East Champs, Osage – 326 to 330.

The Indians finished 20 strokes ahead of third-place Emmetsburg, who also advances because Forest City finished in the top-2.

Ashtin Willims of Belmond-Klemme won the meet with a playoff-hole birdie. He and Emmetsburg’s Josh Matheason tied at 74 during their 18-hole rounds. With the draw, the two went to the 16th to start the playoffs, but Willims sunk a birdie, and Matheason could not match it. Willims and Teagon Fothergill of North Union, who finished 7th, advance to districts (state qualifying meet) as individuals.

The district meet for these teams will be Monday, May 15th, starting at 10 AM in Okobjoi.

At Rice Lake, Lake Mills’ Garrett Ham once again dominated his way to a victory. Ham shot an 18-hole 69 four strokes ahead of second place Will Steege of Aplington-Parkersburg.

Lake Mills won the meet as a team and advanced to the district by firing a 311, nine strokes ahead of second place Aplington-Parkersburg, who advances with a 320. Because Lake Mills finished in the top two, South Winneshiek, the third team, will also advance with its 332.

Cal Kirstein of Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, who shot an 81, and Braylen Loots of Roland-Story, who shot an 83, will also advance.

The teams that advance from this sectional will play for a spot at state on Monday, May 15th, at the district hosted by Dike-New Hartford.
