Forest City Public Library Relocation Issue Still Undecided

The Forest City Public Library has effectively outgrown its facility next to City Hall. As a result, city officials are looking at alternatives. As of now, two stand out. The first is to relocate next door in the old Forest City Foods building. The second is to move to the Waldorf University Library.

Forest City Councilman Tony Mikes is working with the committee that oversees this project. He along with the committee held a town hall meeting with the public.

The original thought was to move to the old Forest City Foods facility. Due to the condition of the building, there would be a significant cost to bring the building up to standard.

The proposal to move to the Waldorf University Library would not mean a merger. Since there are two levels to the library, students and university faculty and staff would occupy the second floor while the general public would be on the first floor. It would also mean expanded hours on weekends and holidays.

Councilman Mikes admitted that some donors to the Forest City Foods building renovation felt betrayed by the proposed idea to move to Waldorf University. A few wanted their donation back even though it had already been spent. Mikes and the committee are still looking for feedback and will continue to hold town halls to gather information and responses.
