Winnebago Roads May See Permitted Overweight Trucks

The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors discussed an issue that may involve some of their secondary and primary roads. The board considered trucks that are authorized for use with an Annual All-Systems Overweight Permit to travel on county roads.

Winnebago County Engineer Scott Meinders explained what the law allows for.

For truckers the process to obtain a permit is simple.

Registration can be completed at the County Treasurer’s Office according to Meinders. The money collected goes to the state and then back to the county.

Meinders also foresees the possibility that things will change for the better. He explained that the county has received money back from the state from the fees that have been collected.

This brings up hesitation among farmers, grain haulers, and truckers in area counties because of a number of uncertainties according to Meinders.

Those who would be interested in the details of the permits can contact either the County Treasurer’s Office or the county road department in their county.
