Sunday Talk: Stone on Energy Benchmarking, Handsfree Driving, and Social Media Bans
Iowa Representative Henry Stone is deeply involved in a number of issues including the budget for the next fiscal year. He is actively trying to stop energy benchmarking which is where the federal government controls your energy usage as part of the Green New Deal.
Distracted driving has become a problem in Iowa. A total of 1,084 crashes were caused by distracted driving in 2021 which is the most recent data available through the Iowa Department of Transportation. Senate File 547 addresses that and prohibits any use of the phone while driving unless it is in a handsfree mode.
Social media is playing a huge role in the lives of our children. Information is potentially being gathered about our children and cyber bullying is also taking place in some instances. Stone has authored a bill, House File 526, which prohibits use of social media for youth under the age of 18. The bill is dividing the House along party lines and has attracted national attention.
Stone took a moment to sit down with KIOW / KHAM News Director A. J. Taylor to talk about these issues in our Sunday Talk.
