Forest City Council Hears about Wastewater Treatment Project Plans

The Forest City Council is looking towards the future and the needs that may arise from residents and businesses in the community. The city has been discussing the need for improved wastewater treatment which may require the construction of a new plant. The city has contracted with WHKS Engineering on the idea.

Bill Engerman of WHKS recently spoke with the city council on the issue and gave an update on the progress so far.

He explained that the city is compelled to have to do this project.

The current plant has been managed efficiently but may not be able to hit new levels in nutrient reduction strategies laid out in recently passed federal laws. This means that equipment and processes need to be updated.

One of the new processes involves oxidation of the sludge according to Engerman.

In order for this plan to move forward, there will be a cost that is involved. Many construction projects have been put on hold due to supply chain issues and Engerman acknowledges that.

Of major concern among those on the council is cost and how it will be paid for. According to Engerman, there is help for the city to cover some of the costs.

The council is reviewing all of these as they continue to explore ways to handle wastewater in the near future.
