Sunday Talk: Feenstra on the Congressional Week

LAUNCHING MY AGRICULTURE ADVISORY BOARD
This week, I launched my Agriculture Advisory Board as we work together to pass a strong Farm Bill that benefits Iowa. Between crop insurance and international trade to biofuels production and rural development, every title of the Farm Bill impacts Iowa agriculture and our economic vitality.
I look forward to working with Honorary Chairman of the board, Secretary Naig, my entire board, and farmers and producers across the 4th District to create sound policy for the Farm Bill that protects the productivity, profitability, and international competitiveness of our agricultural industry.
PROTECTING AMERICAN FARMLAND FROM CHINA
In rural America, our farmland is our most vital yet finite resource.
That’s why I helped introduce legislation to keep China far away from our farmland because American farmland belongs to American farmers.
MY FARM BILL TOWN HALL IN SANBORN
Earlier this week, I continued my Feenstra Agriculture Tour hosting a town hall with farmers and producers in Sanborn to discuss their suggestions and priorities for the upcoming Farm Bill.
We covered everything from my work to reauthorize the successful 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and stop China from buying American farmland to the unfair inheritance tax, biofuels production, and international trade. I also spoke with O’Brien County sheriff’s deputies about the scourge of fentanyl in rural Iowa and the dire need to secure our border.
Meeting with Iowans will always be a top priority for me.
PRESIDENT BIDEN’S BUDGET WILL EXACERBATE POOR ECONOMIC CONDITIONS
President Biden’s nearly $7 trillion budget will pour gasoline on the raging inflation fire that his reckless policies created. The first step to restoring fiscal responsibility in Congress is rejecting this tax-and-spend boondoggle.
Honoring our Commitment to America, House Republicans will protect taxpayers, grow our economy, and end wasteful spending.
MY WORK TO SELL E-15 YEAR-ROUND PERMANENTLY
Making E-15 available at the gas pump 365 days a year will lower gas prices for Iowa families and help end our reliance on foreign countries for our energy needs.
I’m proud to join my Midwest colleagues in introducing legislation to sell E-15 year-round permanently!
ONE MORE THING: DON’T WAIT TO RENEW YOUR PASSPORT!
If you are planning to travel abroad this year, be sure to renew your passport well in advance of your trip. Should you have to renew your passport in person, the closest facilities are in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Denver.
According to the Department of State, passport wait times have increased to nearly 3 months.
MY WEEKLY COLUMN: DELIVERING A STRONG FARM BILL FOR IOWA
Every five years, Congress reauthorizes the Agriculture Improvement Act – better known as the Farm Bill – to protect the productivity, profitability, and international competitiveness of American agriculture.
As the second largest agriculture-producing district in the nation, I am working to ensure that every farmer, producer, and agricultural stakeholder in Iowa has a seat at the table when the Farm Bill is negotiated and eventually signed into law.

Between international trade and conservation to crop insurance and livestock programs, all twelve titles of the Farm Bill support the success of Iowa agriculture and the vitality of our rural main streets. According to the 2022 Feeding the Economy report, Iowa agriculture generates $88.3 billion in economic output, supports 315,000 jobs, and contributes more than $17.5 billion in wages for Iowa workers.

That’s why, this week, I launched my Agriculture Advisory Board – which consists of 60 Iowans from all 36 counties in the 4th District – as we begin to write the 2023 Farm Bill. The board also represents a wide range of industries, including corn, soybeans, pork, beef, turkey, dairy, eggs, cattle, goat, seed, fertilizer, veterinary medicine, equipment manufacturing, FFA, conservation, agricultural lending, and research and development.

Additionally, I hosted a town hall in Sanborn with farmers and producers to hear their suggestions and priorities for the Farm Bill. We covered everything from my work to reauthorize the successful 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and stop China from buying American farmland to the unfair inheritance tax, biofuels production, and international trade. Meeting with Iowans will always be a top priority for me as I travel all 36 counties in my district at least twice a year.

Iowa farmers, producers, and our agricultural community deserve a strong Farm Bill that benefits our state and our agriculture sector. In Congress, I will continue to be a strong voice for rural America and support agricultural policies that protect Iowa’s enduring status as the breadbasket to our country and the world.

We are government together, and your thoughts and opinions matter to me. Please contact my office at Feenstra.House.Gov or by phone at 202-225-4426 if I can ever be of assistance. I am proud to represent our families, farmers, main street businesses, and rural communities in Congress.
