National Weather Service is Expecting Travel Impacts Today

The National Weather Service is expecting winds to be on the increase as rain changes over to snow today. A cold front is moving through the area today which may bring winds gusting between 40-50 miles per hour. This in combination with the snow could bring blizzard like conditions to portions of northwest Iowa. Winter Weather Advisories have been posted including Kossuth County in Iowa and Faribault County in Minnesota.

Officials are encouraging anyone who has to travel in these dangerous conditions, to be prepared with an emergency kit in your vehicle such as food, water, flashlight, blankets, cell phone and charger, and a shovel. Do not leave your vehicle to seek help.

Most of the broadcast area will see rain changing over to snow during the day as temperatures begin to fall below freezing. Winnebago County may see a trace to 3 inches of snow while counties like Hancock and Worth may receive a trace to 2 inches. Cerro Gordo, Humboldt, Wright and Franklin are expected to get anywhere from a trace to less than 2 inches of new snow.
