Winnebago County Accepts $1 Million Contract for Road Resurfacing

The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors considered a bid from Sta-Bilt for road resurfacing for $1,002,698.75. Winnebago County Engineer Scott Meinders explained that the bid covers several road resurfacing projects in the county.

The project calls for micro resurfacing of the roads in the project. Micro resurfacing is where crews put a protective seal coat which extends the life of pavement. Unlike standard resurfacing, it is a thin and highly durable layer of asphalt emulsion blended with finely crushed stone for traction.

Meinders explained that it is also very cost-effective means to extend the life of county roads.

This method of micro resurfacing has a proven track record extending road life. Meinders explains that there are positive effects by taking this action.

According to Meinders, there are a number of roads on the list to be resurfaced. Some of these have cracks in the road that make for a bumpy ride and add to the wear and tear of both the vehicles and the roads. Meinders explained that the resurfacing will help to resolve that.

Meinders is hopeful that as soon as the winter weather breaks and warmer conditions prevail, the work can be done on several locations.

Meinders will alert residents and drivers along those routes when the work is to begin and the detours if any that will be used.
