CDBG Grant Awarded to Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake is the beneficiary of part of a grant to improve the sanitary sewer system in the community. The city will receive $250,000 toward the project which is estimated to cost $683,800.

The Community Development Block Grant totals more than $3.3 million and was awarded equally to nine different communities which included Oelwein and Spencer. Fifteen applications were received by the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) which totaled $5.47 million. Only $3.3 million was available for allocation by the IEDA and Crystal Lake became one of the chosen communities to assist.

The funds allow communities to make needed improvements to water and sewer and water systems, provide facilities for the disabled and at-risk individuals, make needed improvements to housing conditions to low-income individuals, and make transformative improvements to downtown locations.
