Carolyn E. (Bolman) Voss

 Carolyn E. (Bolman) Voss, 90, of Belmond, IA, formerly of Parkersburg, IA and a native of Holland, MI, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 13, 2021, at her home in Belmond surrounded by family and friends.  Her public visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, December 16 at the Immanuel Reformed Church east of Belmond and one hour before her funeral service on Friday.  Her public funeral service will be held at the Immanuel Reformed Church on Friday at 10:30 AM with a dinner following. Reverend David DeKuiper will be officiating.  Burial will be at the Parkersburg Cemetery at 2:30 PM Friday followed by a coffee and lunch at Hope Reformed Church in Parkersburg.  Memorials may be given in Carolyn’s memory to Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan or to the American Diabetic Society.  Carolyn’s funeral service will be live streamed on our Facebook page on Friday for those who are unable to attend in person.
     Carolyn Bolman Voss was born the first child of William and Johanna Bolman of Holland, Michigan on August 1, 1931.  She graduated from Zeeland High School in 1949 and began working at the Holland Furnace Company in bookkeeping. On May 24, 1955, she married Melvin Voss, a recent graduate of Western Theological Seminary in Holland.  They moved to Raritan, Illinois where Melvin was Ordained and Installed as the pastor of the Raritan Reformed Church.  During this time thier sons Mark and Brian were born.
     In 1960 they moved to Knoxville, Iowa to serve the First Reformed Church as it’s pastor in 1967.  In 1984 they moved to Belmond to serve Bethany Reformed Church until 1997 when they retired.  Carolyn was truly a partner in Melvin’s ministry, directing the choir, teaching Sunday School, involved in the women’s ministry and entertaining people. She was involved in various Classis women’s work, and she helped Melvin as she served as the Pleasant Prairie Classis Stated Clerk and Treasurer.  She was also a great entertainer, yearly having the Consistory over for a meal, people over after church at night for coffee and at other times.  For several years she served as counselors at our Classis Youth Camps and as music director at Vacation Bible Schools.  She was active in community women’s organizations in each of the communities where we lived.  She sang many solos in churches even singing a solo at her own wedding.
     She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter-in-law Debra Voss and her sister-in-law Marilyn Bolman.
     She is survived by her husband, Melvin Voss, Belmond, IA; her son Mark and his wife Pam Voss of Ames, IA, and her son Brian Voss of Parkersburg;  two grandchildren,  her sister Joan Bolman of Zeeland, MI, her brother Bill and his wife Kay of Zeeland, MI, her brother Gene and his wife Lois of Zeeland, MI; and several nieces and nephews.  Also, her brother-in-law, Donald Voss and his wife Renee of Oakland Park, ILL, and a nephew and many friends.
