Forest City Boys, Bishop Garrigan girls win Top of Iowa West Track Titles

The Forest City Boys track team ran away with the Top of Iowa West division title Thursday  night in Buffalo Center. The Indians scored 191 points, Lake Mills was runner-up with 123, West Hancock had 96, Bishop Garrigan 92, North Union 80, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura 47, Eagle Grove 47, Belmond-Klemme 43, and North Iowa 18.  Richard Gildemeister won the 200 and 400 meter dashes, while Grady Hovenga was 2nd in the 400. Zach Lehmann and Ryan Theel went 2nd and 3rd in the 800, Brandon Finch won the 400 hurdles and finished 2nd in the Long Jump, Chris Jermeland and Kyle Brown went 2nd and 3rd in the Discus, Ryan Saarie and Sam Snyder went 1 and 2 in the High Jump, Kyle Brown and Colton Shipman went 1 and 2 in the Shot Put, the 4×400 relay team of Gildemeister, Finch, Noah Segerstrom, and Grady Hovenga set the conference record at 3:32.02. Lake Mills won the 4×100, 4×200, and Shuttle Hurdle relays, as well as Gabe Irons setting a conference record in the Discus. West Hancock got wins from MaCoy Yeakel with a meet record in the Long Jump, Josef Smith in the 110 hurdles, and the 4×800 relay team. Garner-Hayfield-Ventura’s Ray Cataldo won the 800 in a new meet record. Riley Bauer of North Union set conference records in the 3,200 and 1,600, as well as anchoring the Distance Medley to victory.

On the girls side, Bishop Garrigan won the title with 119.5 points. West Hancock was 2nd with109, Forest City had 102.5, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura 101, Lake Mills 75, North Union 69, Eagle Grove 68, North Iowa 64, and Belmond-Klemme 29.  For West Hancock, Kaylee Hudspeth won the 200 and 400 meter dashes, as well as the 4×100 relay team. Forest City got wins from Kelsey Koch in the 800 and Long Jump. Garner-Hayfield-Ventura got wins from Hannah Whelan in the 3,000, and Emma Whelan in the High Jump. Lexi Groe of Lake Mills won the 100 and 400 hurdles, North Iowa got a win from the Distance Medley Relay,and Kenzie Bengston and Brenna Paulson went 1 and 2 in the Discus.

The Osage girls won the Top of Iowa East crown with 160 points. Central Springs was 2nd with 125, Saint Ansgar had 112, Northwood-Kensett 101.5, West Fork 73.5, Nashua-Plainfield 48, North Butler 41, Newman Catholic 39, and Rockford 33. The Saint Ansgar boys won the East crown with 181.5. Central Springs was 2nd with 124, Osage had 115, West Fork 80, Newman Catholic 75.5, Northwood-Kensett 70, Nashua-Plainfield 49, North Butler 30, and Rockford 15.
