Waldorf University men’s golfer Thomas O’Rourke earned North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Golfer-of-the-Week honors, which was announced by the conference on Tuesday.
O’Rourke opened the spring season strong, tying for fifth place in last weekend’s Graceland Invitational as he carded an 18-hole score of 74 on the par-72 layout at Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville, Mo. The second round of the tournament was canceled on Saturday due to unplayable course conditions following heavy rainfall.
O’Rourke helped lead the Warriors to a seventh-place finish as they recorded a team score of 328 strokes.
This year, O’Rourke leads Waldorf with an average of 78.73 strokes per round. The senior from Forest City has put together two top-five finishes.
The Warriors return to action on Sunday as they battle NCAA Division III’s Iowa Wesleyan University for the Purple Cup in a match-play event at Fort Madison. Waldorf remains in Fort Madison for next Monday’s Tiger Classic. Both events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course.
