Waldorf University softball player Kennedy Vinchattl captured North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Player-of-the-Week honors, which was announced by the conference on Monday.
Vinchattle put together an impressive week, helping the Warriors (9-7) win four games during the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic at North Myrtle Beach, S.C. She posted a .522 batting average and a 1.217 slugging percentage while crushing four home runs and providing 17 RBIs in a seven-game stretch. Vinchattle collected 12 total hits, including four doubles and also scored for runs.
During the spring break trip, Vinchattle turned in two hits in all but two games. She went 2-for-3 with a solo homer in last Monday’s 3-1 victory over the University of Rio Grande (11-6), which is ranked No. 24 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) preseason poll.
Vinchattle contributed a pair of doubles and three RBIs during Tuesday’s 9-4 loss to Roosevelt University (6-4). Waldorf bounced back later in the day with a 7-5 win over Ohio Christian University (2-6) as Vinchattle went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, a double and four RBIs.
In Wednesday’s 8-7 loss to William Woods University (14-9), Vinchattle once again finished 2-for-3 as she connected for a solo homer and a two-run double. She smashed a grand slam and finished with five RBIs in an 8-7 loss to NCAA Division II’s Malone University (6-3).
The Warriors closed out their spring break trip with back-to-back wins on Friday. Vinchattle plated a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI single in a 5-3 victory over NCAA Division III’s Alderson Broaddus University (4-4). She contributed a single as Waldorf scored a 6-5 win in 10 innings over NCAA Division II’s Ohio Valley University (3-8) in the final game of the week.
Vinchattle is currently sporting a .531 batting average, which ranks 14th in the NAIA. She’s currently first in the nation with a 1.143 slugging percentage and leads the Warriors with a .569 on-base percentage. Vinchattle tops the team with 26 total hits, including a team-high 10 doubles and a triple. The junior shortstop from Boone leads Waldorf with six homers and 29 RBIs. Vinchattle currently ranks sixth in the nation in RBIs, seventh in doubles, ninth in homers and 14th in total bases (56).
The Warriors, who own 4-2 record in North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) play, return to action when they host the University of Jamestown (13-11, 3-1) in a four-game conference series. Waldorf opens the series with the Jimmies on March 25 in a 1 p.m. doubleheader and the final twin bill is scheduled for March 26 at 12 p.m.
