Belmond City Council To Discuss Water Rate Increases Tonight

The Belmond City Council will meet this evening in the Belmond City Hall beginning at 7pm. They will first open the meeting to a public forum allowing residents and businesses to voice and concerns that they may have. The council won’t act on the concerns, but may schedule action on future agendas.

The council will then discuss the fiscal year 2017-18 Operating Budget. The council will first hold a public hearing to allow concerned citizens the opportunity to be heard. The council will then review and possible adopt Resolution 1894 which adopts the new operating budget.

Residents will also learn the fate of a proposed ordinance to increase water rates. Ordinance 433 increases a Service Availability Rate from $16 a month to $19. The rate increase would go into effect on July 1st which is the beginning of the next fiscal calendar year. The council will have a second reading, but may opt to waive the third and adopt the ordinance in it’s final form.

The council may approve various contracts at the end of the meeting. These include mosquito spraying, mowing, and Weed Spraying contracts. Another is for a customer support program for the cities Ziegler Generator.
