Cardinals, Eagles punch Boys State Basketball Tournament tickets, Forest City moves one step away

The Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Boys basketball team exorcised the demons of 2016 Saturday night, as the Cardinals defeated the Osage Green Devils 47-43.  Nick Joynt led the Cardinals with 20 points, including 3 free throws in the final minute to help keep the lead. Cardinal coach Joe Albertson talked after the game about the game plan and how the defense really locked down in the 2nd half.

After dropping the substate game last year, the Cardinals are going to state. Albertson talks about the relief of getting past the Green Devils.

GHV Coach Joe Albertson. The Green Devils were led by Drew Olson’s 16. GHV is now 23-1, and will find out who they play on Wednesday.

The West Hancock Boys basketball team came from behind to defeat West Fork 53-44 and take the Class 1A Substate 2 final in Clarion Saturday night. The Eagles were led by Dylan Eckels’ 19 points and 6 rebounds, while Ben Eisenman had 19 points and 6 assists. Seth Weiland added 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocked shots. The Eagles also made 15 of 16 shots at the free throw line. The Eagles are 19-6, and play next Monday at Wells Fargo Arena against an opponent to be determined.

The Forest City boys basketball team blitzed Crestwood in a 3A district final on Saturday afternoon 62-43. The Indians got 15 points apiece from Avery Busta, Ryan Theel, and Sam Snyder. Theel added 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Forest City is now 19-4 and takes on Waverly-Shell Rock in Parkersburg tonight. Game time is 7 PM.
