WINNEBAGO COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD NEWS RELEASE by Lisa Ralls, Winnebago County Naturalist
Bluebird Basics Workshop Scheduled
Seeing bluebirds arrive in the springtime is one of the great joys of our changing seasons here in Iowa! To help people attract bluebirds, the Winnebago County Conservation Board will be holding a Bluebird Basics workshop on Saturday, March 1st at the Thorpe Park shelterhouse. The program will begin at 10:00 AM and last about 90 minutes.
During the workshop, Winnebago County Naturalist Lisa Ralls will present a program on the eastern bluebird, including its life history and how to attract it. There will also be time for questions and answers and to look at some of the bluebird houses at Thorpe Park. Everyone will then also have the option to make their own bluebird house to take home, if they’d like!
Although there will be no cost to attend the Bluebird Basics program, and people of all ages are welcome to attend, the WCCB will request a small $5 donation for supplies if people wish to make a bluebird house to take home. People planning on making a house should also bring along a hammer and sign up ahead of time so that enough bluebird house kits are available. To sign up, or for more information about the workshop, people can contact Lisa Ralls at either 641-565-3390 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The WCCB hopes that people will use this opportunity to learn more about one of Iowa’s most splendid birds. The workshop should provide a perfect way for everyone, young and old, welcome back spring!
