Grassley Welcomes USDA Creation of New Trade Undersecretary

Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, a lifelong family farmer, a senior member and former chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, made the following comment on the creation of a new congressionally-mandated Undersecretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs at the Department of Agriculture.

“The creation of an undersecretary for trade is welcome news for agriculture, an industry that provides a major source of trade exports and good-paying jobs across Iowa and the entire country. Secretary Perdue’s timely follow-through on the creation of this congressionally-mandated post recognizes the significant role of farmers in the U.S. economy and the opportunity increased agricultural exports could have for rural America. U.S. agriculture feeds not only the nation, but the world, and I look forward to working with Secretary Perdue and the new undersecretary as they work to open new markets for Iowa agriculture across the globe.”
