Rate Hikes Loom Closer for Forest City Residents

The Forest City Council is one step closer to enacting a number of rate hikes that will affect the pocketbooks of local residents. Forest City Mayor Byron Ruiter says the first reading of an ordinance enacting an increase in solid waste and recycling rates was passed on Monday night.

Likewise, the first reading of an ordinance to raise water rates on water and wastewater was also passed. Ruiter explained the new rates.

As Mayor Ruiter mentioned, a new Capital Improvement fund has been established.

The council will hold a second reading of the ordinances 763 and 764 at their next meeting on April 3rd. They may waive the third and final reading at the meeting, at which time the fee increases would take effect.
