Career Planning Event Slated for March in Lake Mills

Do you have kids who are thinking about what they want to be when they grow up or maybe trying to decide where they want to go to college? Are you looking for a career change or want to learn more about training and advancement opportunities? Do you have a job opening that you are trying to fill?

Join Lake Mills Community School, the Lake Mills Chamber Development Corporation, and Winn-Worth Betco for the Career Planning Event held at the Lake Mills Community School on Monday, March 6, 2017, from 4:30 pm – 8 pm. The Career Planning Event will be an evening full of food, presentations, information, the opportunity to talk on-on-one with area businesses, and to hear keynote speaker, Scott Siepker, the ‘Iowa Nice Guy’.

Scott Siepker is an actor, writer, producer, and filmmaker. Scott started off as a stage actor at Iowa State University, where he received his bachelor degree in psychology. Scott has gone on to co-found the film company, Iowa Filmmakers, which has been responsible for the Iowa Nice series of hit videos that included a two season run on ESPNU’s College Football Daily. Though Scott is best known for his work as the Iowa Nice Guy, he is a versatile, veteran actor of stage and screen drama and comedy.

Attend the presentations and panels that you are interested in, and talk with business representatives at their booths about what they do, how they do it, and what types of careers they hire for. Get information on the education, skills, and experience that will get you on track and ahead in your career.

The evening will start with a Hot Dog Supper in the Lake Mills Community School Foyer, hosted by Parents For D.C. The supper is free, but free-will donations will be accepted and used to sponsor students on the annual trip to Washington D.C. The supper will be served until food is gone, so first-come, first served.

The booths with businesses, local colleges, and area workforce organizations will also open at 4:30 pm in the High School Gymnasium, and will be open through 8 pm. Network with area businesses or find out more about their organizations while picking up information or discussing with them current career opportunities in the area.
