Lake Mills Need Volunteers to Host District Large Group Speech Contest

Lake Mills High School has the privilege of hosting the Iowa High School Speech Association’s District Large Group Speech Contest on Saturday, January 21. Meaning, the school will be hosting hundreds of students from area school districts plus audiences! Students will be performing in classrooms and gyms around the building to showcase their skills in speaking, acting, singing, etc. Volunteer are necessary in order to pull off such an event!

Volunteers are needed for:

  • Set-up and tear down (classrooms/centers, concessions, lunchroom, hallways, etc.),
  • Concession stand
  • Working in classrooms (timers, door keepers, hallway monitors)
  • Greeters at the doors
  • Runners for judges and room chairs (delivering important paperwork to and from the office)
  • Runners of food for judges and room chairs (could be a middle school student or older to bring snacks and refreshments to classrooms),
  • And more!

The school is hoping to find at least 30 volunteers for the day. Volunteers can sign up for a half or full day commitment, but officials say any amount of assistance is appreciated. Those who volunteer for a half or a full day will receive a meal voucher for the concession stand.

The building will open at 7:00 am for set-up.  Most schools will arrive around 7:30. The contest will begin at 8:00 AM and will continue until finished. We hope to be out of the building by 4:00 PM.  If all goes well, the contest should be finished before 3:00 PM.
