The home opener for the Waldorf College men’s soccer team didn’t yield the outcome the Warriors had in mind.
Dordt College (1-0) came away with a 3-1 victory over the Warriors (0-2) on Saturday.
The Defenders capitalized on a penalty kick as Derick Sackey found the back of the net 33 minutes and 41 seconds into the contest.
Waldorf looked to battle back during the final 45 minutes, trailing by just one goal at the end of the first half. Two second-half goals cushioned Dordt’s lead as the Defenders stayed on the attack.
Dordt’s Cody Van Holland notched a goal on an assist from Sackey less than four minutes into the second half. Ryan Couperus delivered the final goal of the match for the Defenders on an assist from Ryan Postma.
Waldorf junior goalkeeper Erubey Ponce recorded nine saves in the loss.
Dordt attempted 19 shots, finishing with 12 shots on-goal.
Junior forward Kwaku Amoah, Serrano, Delgdadillo and Cook attempted two shots each for the Warriors.
Waldorf resumes the season on Tuesday, hosting Mount Mercy University (2-0) at 5 p.m.
