Una Vocis to Hold Auditions for 2014-2015 Season

Una Vocis, a select choral ensemble with members from communities in North Iowa, is holding auditions for its tenth anniversary season, which runs Aug. 2014 to July 2015.  Potential members must be of college age and above to audition and should be prepared for a challenging and rewarding musical experience.  In recent seasons Una Vocis has performed works by Britten, Bernstein, Whitacre, Paulus, Warland and Palestrina.  In addition, they have premiered 21 original works by local, national, and international composers.
Una Vocis will hold auditions in both Mason City and Clear Lake.  The Mason City auditions will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 100 South Pierce Avenue on Thursday, Aug. 14, 5-8 p.m and on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2-5 p.m.  Clear Lake auditions will also be held at Clear Lake United Methodist Church at 508 2nd Avenue North on Saturday, Aug. 16, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Interested singers may sign up for an audition time at the Una Vocis website: http://www.unavocis.org/audition-info.html. Maps showing the locations of the audition sites are available on the choir website. Anyone interested but unable to audition during the scheduled times is encouraged to contact Dennis Lee, Una Vocis artistic director, at dennis.lee@unavocis.org or 641-430-2959 after 6 p.m.
Those signing up for a 15-minute audition slot should come prepared to sing a short solo, such as a hymn or My Country ‘Tis of Thee; an accompanist is present but singers should feel free to bring their own.  Singers can also expect to do vocal range exercises, listen to musical phrases and sing them back, and learn a short section of a choir piece and sing it with a quartet from the group.
Una Vocis rehearses from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at First Presbyterian Church in Mason City; optional sectional rehearsals may be held before rehearsal at 5:30 p.m. The first rehearsal this season is Aug. 28.
