Multiple units responded to a two vehicle head on collision on Highway 18 around 11:45am this morning. Police say that four persons, one of which was a baby, were taken to Mercy Medical Hospital in Mason City to be treated for injuries. There has been no word on the extent of the injuries.
Clear Lake Police on scene said that the two cars slammed into each other on the east bound lane forcing one into the west bound traffic. The entire road, shoulder to shoulder was encompassed by the accident that police refuse to comment on the cause citing that it would solely be speculation at this time. The accident occurred in front of the Agape Christian Family Church.
Traffic on Highway 18 was blocked off and alternate routes were established as the police extricated the victims from the cars. One car was an SUV while the other was a sedan. Both cars sustained heavy damage.
Clear Lake Police called for assistance from the Iowa State Patrol and the Mason City Police Department. Meanwhile ambulatory crews were called in from Clear Lake and Mason City to transport the victims. The SUV and the sedan were both towed from the site.
Police will release an official statement later after the investigation has been completed.
