Future Top Of Iowa Conference Member Falls in State Championship

The Newman Catholic Knights stormed through playoffs taking out the most of their future super conference members and making their way to the state title with a ton of confidence. They were ranked number two in the state and many felt that they had all the components to win.

Then they ran into number one ranked Twin Cedars in the Class 1A State Championship Game. This was third time the Knights had been to the title matchup so experience was on the side of the Knights. However, experience goes only so far as the Twin Cedars pitcher Otis Roby baffled the Knights through the fifth inning. Roby through a series of fastballs, change-ups and curves with a few knuckleballs thrown  in to frustrate the Knights almost all afternoon.

Twin Cedars jumped ahead early in the game and didn’t ever look back or allow the Knights to get close to tying up the game. In the end, the boys from Bussey came away with an 8-2 victory. The Sabers took the title leaving the Knights to settle for second just as they had been ranked.

The Knights have a very good returning team next year, one year prior to the official kick off of the Top of Iowa Conference.

The Sabers finish the year undefeated
