The Worth County Extension Service will host an Emerald Ash Borer Educational Workshop on Thursday, August 7th at 5:30 P.M. at the Worth County Fairgrounds at 300 North 13th Street in Northwood. There will be no charge for the program and all the general public is invited to attend. Emerald Ash Borer has been found in nine counties in Iowa and has the potential of wiping out our entire population of Ash Trees throughout the state. Those attending this workshop will learn about how to identify the insect Emerald Ash Borer, what symptoms of infestation to look for, potential treatment options, and tree replacement possibilities if Ash Trees need to be removed.
The featured speaker for the workshop will be Dr. Mark Shour, Iowa State University Extension Entomologist who has been educating people across Iowa about the invasion of Emerald Ash Borer into the state. Dr. Shour will be joined by Dennis Johnson, Worth County Extension Education Specialist, who will lead a tour around the walking path at the Fairgrounds identifying potential trees that could be planted in place of Ash Trees. Those wanting more information about the meeting are asked to please contact Dennis Johnson at Worth County Extension at 641-324-1531 or E-Mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org
